GRAND CANYON VILLAGE AREA

 

Two small earthquakes occurred near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon yesterday. They struck about 5 miles south of the Grand Canyon Village within a region that continues to be the most seismically active region of Arizona, including a swarm in March 1992 with earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 and 4.5. The magnitudes 4.9 and 5.4 earthquakes of April 1993 occurred 20 miles south of yesterday's epicenters.
