WUPATKI AND GRAND CANYON EARTHQUAKES
The northern Arizona region has experienced two earthquakes during the last two days:
The first occurred in the Surprise Canyon region of the western Grand Canyon about 26 miles northwest of Peach Springs. The magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck at 10:09 p.m. local time on Tuesday night February 9th. The area is located between two major fault systems, the Grand Wash and Hurricane faults.
Last night a magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck at Wupatki National Monument, about 26 miles northeast of Flagstaff. The earthquake occurred late Wednesday night February 10 at 11:37 p.m. local time.
These earthquakes occurred in sparsely populated areas and no felt or damage reports have been received at the center.
